Darwin's Spectacular Scenery

If you have not as yet been to Darwin, put it in your "must do someday" list. But, ensure that "someday" is not too far distant, because the scenery in and near Darwin is absolutely stunning.

Darwin is quite some distance from other populated areas of Australia, so you will probably arrive in the city by aeroplane and not your own private car.

After spending a few days in the city checking out the sights, hire a car and head off for the National Parks nearby where the scenery is spectacular.



Within a reasonable drive from Darwin is the Mary River National Park, Litchfield National Park and the world famous Kakadu National Park.

The Mary River National Park's river and wetlands are teeming with wildlife. A river trip on one of the Mary River boats will allow you to see jumping crocodiles up close. You, however, have a protective layer of thick glass between you and the ferocious jumping crocodiles.Why do they jump?Well, they are jumping for a feed.From the top deck, a crew member will dangle part of a wild pig's carcass attached to a cord tied to a stick for the crocs to jump up for.







In addition to the wetlands, the whole district around Dawin has many structures built by insects. These are the termite mounds. Some of them are huge. There are many different types of termites found in Australia, and each type has different design protocols for their houses than the others.




Spectacular gorges, Aboriginal rock art and beaut waterholes (beware of the crocs) are among the many other attractions.
