For more than 9 years, (DPA) has help students to develop their passion of dance. In a fun and friendly environment, DPA helps students to build their confidence, gain a sense of self-discipline and get fit all at the same time.



is owned and operated by Marnette Jan who has been dancing for over 35 years and teaches the CSTD syllabus. Marnette has complete the Senior Gold bar in Tap, Intermediate in Ballet and the Performer Shield in theatrical. Marnette Jan is also the Principal Teacher, Artistic Director and Choreographer of all performances. Marnette puts her heart and soul into making DPA and her students the best they can be.

(DPA) teaches from the internationally recognised Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance (CSTD) syllabus which has been around for over 70 years. The syllabus covers styles such as theatrical, modern jazz, tap, ballet and acrobatics.

DPA offers classes for children aged from 2 to adults and for all levels from beginner to advanced. Babies class is where it all begins. This class suitable for children from two to four years of age. The classes are designed to introduce music, movement, stretching, and coordination through popular nursery rhymes and music from Hi-5, Bananas in Pajamas, Wiggles and other favourites. The class runs for 45 minutes.



The Tiny Tots classes are for students aged from five to eight years. DPA offers ballet, tap, jazz and acrobatics for this age group and classes run for one hour. Tiny Tots have the opportunity to begin working towards their CSTD exams.

In Junior class, most children will know what they like and don't like, which helps in deciding which class is best suited to them. This class suitable for children aged from nine to 13 years. DPA offers ballet, tap, jazz and acrobatics for this age group and classes run for one hour. Juniors have the opportunity to continue with formal CSTD exams.



The Intermediate and Senior classes are for pre-teens, teens and young adults. By the time the students reach this age group, they are dancing because they love it. These classes are recommended for students who wish to further their dancing careers. All styles are available to this age group which range from 14 to 19 years.

Adult classes aew fun and relaxed way to dance. DPA offers tap classes to students aged 18 years and over. As adults, sometimes you may not be able to attend all classes due to important commitments, so attendance is on a casual basis. Tuition is paid whenever you attend a class. The only requirement is that you have fun and enjoy dance!

DPA offers a wide range dance class to their students. The choice starts from jazz classes. In jazz class, dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. DPA's jazz classes consist of a mixture of theatrical, modern jazz, funk and musical theatre. Students wishing to partake in examinations in this style are taught the CSTD Modern Jazz Syllabus which is currently examined around the world.



With tap dance, you can learn this unique and popular style of dance taught by DPA experienced tapping technicians. Whether you are a beginner or looking to further enhance your tapping technique, these classes provide tuition to suit students of all levels. Students are guided through all rhythms and genres. Working with the CSTD syllabus, students will learn the basic technique and theory of tap while gaining a better understanding of music and rhythm.

In classical Ballet class, it will transporting you to another world classical ballet that teaches you strength and endurance while being graceful at the same time. Ballet is the foundation of dance and one of the important styles. Ballet will give you beautiful posture, grace, technique, flexibility, strength and discipline. Ballet is recommended to any student who wishes to further their dance career. Working at a slower pace, ballet is very disciplined and can sometimes, if not taught correctly, be seen as boring. However keeping the classes fun and interesting, especially for the little ones, while still maintaining the required discipline can be a wonderful start to your child's life. DPA uses the CSTD syllabus and incorporate neo-classical and slow modern styles for variety. Classical ballet classes are offered from Pre-Primary level (from approximately 5 years old) through to Advanced Level.



DPA also offers acrobatics class. Acrobatics teaches you strength and flexibility and gives you the chance to fly. This is by far the most loved class. Acrobatics teaches balance, flexibility, strength and tumbling. These classes are full of fun and the kids absolutely love these classes! Acrobatics classes are offered for all age groups from 5 years old, from beginners through to the advanced level. Beginner classes start with stretching, strengthening, cartwheels, bend backs and somersaults and work up to flipping, aerial work and balances in advanced classes. Students are individually assisted with tricks on a mat by experienced teachers. Classes are graded according to students ability level and students have the opportunity to move up levels throughout the year once new tricks have been mastered.

Students who show dedication and skill get selected for troupe. They are required to do ballet, jazz and tap within the Academy. They perform around Darwin and even travel interstate for competitions. The troupe girls were the official cheerleaders for the NT Thunder.

DPA offers boys only class. This class is a mixture of tap, funk and acrobatics. It combines strength with skill while having a great time.

DPA also offers Contemporary/Lyrical style. They have 2 classes in Contemporary/Lyrical style, for under 11s and for 12 and over. Contemporary is an expressive form of dance, which comprises of Ballet and Modern Jazz. Lyrical is based on Modern Jazz, Contemporary and Ballet, it teaches the students to connect to the song and express movement through song.

There is also Musical Theatre classes. In this class, students will be taught about stage shows and includes singing, dancing and drama. Students can do exams in Modern Jazz, Tap and Classical ballet.
Students who do not wish to do exams are welcome to join in or do other classes in Jazz or Tap.

At DPA, the school colours are black and turquoise and students are requested to wear these colours to classes. Little Dancers may wear anything that is comfortable. Pretty dresses for girls and shorts for boys are acceptable. Classical Ballet students must wear a black and/or turquoise leotard and pink ballet tights. Any style of jazz pants, shorts, leotards or top can be worn to the jazz and tap classes provided they are in the school colours of black and turquoise.

DPA encourages all students with good grooming in all of classes. Long hair must be tied up at all times and in a bun for Ballet classes and make sure that hair is off the face and neatly brushed. It required correct shoes for all classes. Camel or black colour is for Jazz shoes, Tap Shoes are camel colour and Ballet shoes are pink. Bloch Sneakers and bare feet are not permitted in any class.
