With 2024 marking the 50th Anniversary of the release of the musical masterpiece, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon comes an interplanetary experience where sight and sound merge.
The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium will be holding a limited season of creative installation where Pink Floyd's album will provide the musical soundtrack for the visual presentation of the solar system and beyond.
The show will be held in the Brisbane Planetariums' Cosmic Skydome which presents educational and entertaining shows about astronomy and the night sky, or for training in celestial navigation. The white exterior of the 12.5-metre-diameter projection dome. is unmissable and is situated within the grounds of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha (near Toowong)
About The Dark Side of the Moon Album
Who is Pink Floyd and why create a show around this album? Pink Floyd formed in London in 1965 with experimental, psychedelic influences.
The band's album,
The Dark Side of the Moon is considered by some to be one of the best of all time. Released in 1973 through Capitol Records and recorded at Abbey Road Studios, it was the band's eighth studio album.
Band member Roger Waters described the album, which features songs including
Money, Eclipse, and Us and Them, as "a simple battle between darkness and light with outer space as a backdrop."
The Brisbane Planetarium Show will pay homage to the songs of the album with a visual theatrical mix. The experience runs until 31 December 2024. While there has been a high demand for the show, if you are lucky enough to score a ticket the prices are Adult $16, and Concession $12. Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
