Choose organic coffee and snacks in Doncaster

If you love coffee and you're into looking after yourself, then Dark Rye Organic Cafe is the place to go. Situated on the ground floor of Westfield's Doncaster venue, this cafe is right in the centre of a hive of market activity. The draw cards for Dark Rye are the selection of organic and gluten free products, personalised catering for community and corporate functions and its support of various charities.

Domenic Butera, who is the owner of Dark Rye and who has close to 20 years experience in the food industry, presents his fervour for excellence in customer service in his choice of very friendly staff. The quote 'your smiling face is a gift' by Rebbetzin Esther Jungreis, is demonstrated here on a daily basis.

The primary reason for Domenic's foray into all things organic was to offer a healthier alternative to those who enjoy what is the world's most popular drink: coffee. The organic products are purchased on a weekly basis from Kas Organics and the Footscray Markets. For more information you can click here.

Approximately 85% of the products sold at Dark Rye are certified organic and include a delicious assortment of focaccias, gluten-free breads, drinks, salads and cakes. All ingredients in the coffee are organic, including the sugar and milk. It's astounding how much coffee we (as Australians) consume. The estimated number of cups of coffee brewed per day exclusive of those made at home is approximately 1.23 million (Dugald, J from SMH. To read the article click here). Given the option to buy organic for approximately the same price, it would seem ridiculous not to.

Prices for coffee at Dark Rye are as follows:
3.50 for a small coffee
4.00 for a medium coffee
5.00 for a large coffee

On one occasion I tried a half strength latte and found the quality and taste to be satiating. Whilst enjoying my coffee I had the chance to speak to Dante and Jodie who are regular patrons. Dante mentioned to me that she comes to Dark Rye every week for her regular soy cappuccino.

She added:

"I like the consistency and I'm on the look-out for venues that are family friendly. Dark Rye ticks all the boxes. Not only is there ample space for my pram, but my toddler finds the special black half chocolate for kids a treat to look forward to while I relax with the paper. I don't feel like I have to rush out just because I have a kid."

Towards my left Jodie concurs:

"I appreciate the quick service, you always get a seat and my friends and I think Dom is just gorgeous."

I spotted a young man tapping at his computer next to Jodie. "Must be catching up on work," I thought to myself. Wi-Fi is readily available if requested. The opening hours are as follows:

Mon-Wed 7:00am to 5:30pm
Thur-Fri 7:00am to 8:00pm
Sat-Sun 7:00am to 5:30pm

In addition to providing excellent coffee, snacks and service, Dark Rye also offers catering for corporate and community events. This is a personalized service and dependent on the needs of the organisation. Now more than ever, it's proving a popular option. Food appreciation is an excellent way of forging camaraderie amongst team mates.

Most importantly Domenic has developed a reputation as a supporter and fundraiser for various charities.
"I like to give back," he said.
That's a massive big tick to me.
