Dark Matter is a Canadian science fiction series created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.

Dark Matter covers many themes, from galaxies colonised by humans to futuristic technology, time travel, physics concepts and time-bending, intergalactic space travelling, clones and androids and parallel universes.

The crew of the spaceship Raza awake from stasis and realise they don't have memories and therefore a past. They call each other by numbers from one to six on the order that they awoke.

In much of the first episodes, the crew try to regain control of their spaceship, putting together all the clues they can find in order to work out who they are and why they are on a spaceship. It turns out they are a band of space mercenaries who were hired to kill and destroy, but now they have to deal with their new self, created after eliminating their memories.

Onboard the spaceship is an android whose name is Android. Android is very capable of controlling the ship and helps the crew with all the different issues and problems they have to face in many of their adventures.

Thank you to a device, that was given to her by more evolved androids, Android can act more like a human in the movements, in the voice and in emotions. But she soon realises that she can also make more mistakes like a human, especially when putting together a large amount of complicated and complex information.

In the Dark Matter world, Androids are not allowed to walk free, they must belong to someone.

Character Five is a teenage girl with green coloured hair. Five doesn't belong originally to the Raza team, but she managed to remember how she ended up on board the spaceship. Apparently, all the memories of each member of the crew have been transferred into her mind during stasis but the memories are all jumbled.

Unlike Star Trek, which tasks were to discover new worlds and new forms of life, Dark Matter revolves around the Raza's crew which is trying to put together information about their life and the reasons why they are on a space ship.

In the Dark Matter world, there are no aliens as the planets in the galaxy have been taken over by humans. There are galactic authorities not immune to corruption and big corporations ready to enter in war to defend their profits.

The concept of teletransporting the consciousness in a remote location that is transferred into a clone is interesting. The clone can then move into dangerous missions without the real person risking their own life. If the clone gets killed, the real person wakes up not remembering anything about their life as a clone.

Dark Matter has received mixed reviews. It is entertaining, it has humour and it is capable to create suspense. In particular, Season 2 and Season 3 are much more developed since the characters have accepted their dark past and look into the future. Dark Matter may not have an original plot but the stories move well and the characters are convincing.
