Darebin Parklands is a conservation park sited along the Darebin Creek. A wonderful setting for walks and escaping into the natural environment, located only 5km from Melbourne's CBD. The park has a full time Ranger coordinating the Education Centre which details the parks rich history and commitment to conservation and environmental sustainability.

"The Nest" Sculpture pictured above, was made by artists David Bell and Gary Tippett using recycled materials. The Darebin council's art and culture department commissioned the artwork for display as public art in 2013. Love it or hate it! I love it as it enhances the surrounding environment and has become an icon of the Darebin Parklands.

I feel very fortunate to be working only 10 mins from The Darebin Parklands. It's a great place to recharge, meditate, exercise or organise a family picnic. Dogs are welcome and can walk off-lead (except 2m either side of the shared path).

The Creek Trail runs through the park and provides shared trail access through to Bundoora Park 10km to the north. The trail is in the process of being extended. The work on section two of the Darebin Creek Trail from Napier Waller Reserve along the Creek through the Latrobe Golf Course, then across the Yarra through Willsmere Park to Main Yarra Trail in East Kew near the Eastern Freeway. This is great news for bike riders. For more information regarding the upgrade to the trail, click here.

The park is an oasis in the middle of suburbia. One would think you would need to drive out of Melbourne to experience natural rock faces, wetlands, historical olive trees and such a wonderful natural environment.

Tours can be organised by contacting the Education Centre. I highly recommend doing the Spiritual Walking trail, so get in touch with the rangers at the park for a brochure, you can do this yourself or join a group!

As you climb to the top of the hill, you will be rewarded by beautiful views of the Melbourne CBD.
