Where does one begin! There's so much happening at the Darebin Music Feast between 12 - 22 October 2017, you're going to have to peruse the program with a fine eye, so as not to miss out on your favourites (and perhaps you'll explore and find new favourites) at the over 100 events in venues across the City of Darebin at its 21st edition of this music feast. There's something for everyone! There are free and ticketed events, so be sure to get in early for the ticketed events.

This colourful community musical festival's focus this year is on giving 'lesser heard voices' a platform for artistic and musical expression. There'll be a variety of indigenous and LGBTIQ events happening across the 11 days, as well as a smorgasbord of other events for families and lovers of music and arts!

The first day of the festival launches with Australia's premier Aboriginal band, Coloured Stone. Combining rock, ska and reggae with a unique Aboriginal sound, incorporating traditional instruments, they're now recognised worldwide and will take you on a musical journey spanning 40 years. Along with an after party at the Darebin Arts Centre, I'd get in quick and book your tickets.

Tago Mago's free opening night party in Thornbury, from 7pm till midnight also on the first day, features a host of special guests including Maggie May, Steven Smart and more. Expect music, spoken word, a Tago trivia open section, magic and mayhem.

Rough and ready gurus of gritty funk with reggae-laden roots, rattle-brained style of quasi jazz from a Rat Child, a 6-piece funk juggernaut, the Josh Kelly Trio and the Balkan Jam complete the entertainment program of the first day, and there's still 10 days of programs to go!

With what looks like the most entertainment packed into one day on Saturday 14 October, to The Reservoir Stomp closing night party (the smash hit of the 2016 Feast, so book early), there's plenty at this event to keep you partied out! Check through the program for Featured events, Participatory events, Families (coz music isn't just for grown-ups), and Darebin Live.
