This is a music festival for the whole family
The Darebin Music Feast presents, develops and supports Darebin's eclectic music culture. The full program for the 2018 Feast is now live! This Feast will be a huge 11 days of non-stop music! There will be 120 events across 26 venues. Many of these are free and suitable for all ages - in other words, this Feast has something for everyone, no matter what age bracket you fall into.
At this Feast, there will be film screenings right through to block parties. This year's feature events will be packed with local talent and those performers often not normally heard.
Darebin Music Feast opening Party will feature:
Her Sound, Her Story, plus Sonic/Ascent.
This will be held on Thursday 18th October, at 7.00 pm until 11.00 pm at the Darebin Arts Centre, Corner Bell Street and St Georges Road, Preston. Tickets are $25, and you can book yours here.
This launching will be a special film and live music. Her Sound, Her Story is made in Australia and has an "M" rating. It is about an intimate conversation which reveals the personal experiences, and important and social impacts of women in the Australian music industry. After the movie, why not stay for Sonic/Ascent, which is an evening of music, art and creative visions curated by ThickWave and LISTEN. Here they will bring together a fabulous line-up of artists who will re-shape the future.
Sonic aGender: Music Experts Explore Artistry, Genre and Aesthetics. This will be held on Friday 19th October to Sunday 21st October, at various times and venues.
Sonic aGender is a program of events that "considers relationships between gender, sound and narrative." You will be hearing about how "female, femme and non-binary indie musicians approach their artistry."
This will be curated by Janelle Johnstone, who has been an arts and community development professional for over twenty years. Janelle first played an electric guitar at age 14. She went on to book some of Melbourne's iconic live music venues – the Punters Club and The Tote. She was also a producer of the Melbourne Big Day Out and worked in the community broadcasting sector.

Darebin Music Feast Songwriters' Award Grand Final
This will be held on Thursday 25th October, from 7.30 pm. It will be on at the Northcote Town Hall, Studio 1, 189 High St, Northcote.
It is a free event which has been going for some 15 years now and is a highly regarded songwriting competition. It attracts about 100 entries from Darebin-based songwriters each year. Ten finalists are then selected to perform at the Grand Final during the Darebin Music Feast.
You can be in the audience for this and prize package includes $2000, studio time, and much more.
This will be on Friday 26th October from 6.30 pm, at the Northcote Town Hall. Tickets are $15, and you can book your ticket here.
Our Voices, Inc. presents a special Darebin Music Feast edition of Sudo Girls Talk! This is an all South Sudanese female group of musicians, spoken word artists and poets. This celebrates the many talented people from the South Sudanese Australian community.
Jirrmujina Liyan will be on Saturday 27th October at 7.00 pm, at the Northcote Town Hall, in the Main Hall. Costs are:

Jirrmujina Liyan (songs for spirit) showcases the power of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People through music. The word Liyan comes from the Yawuru people of the Kimberley and it means 'soul' or 'spirit'. At this event, there will be a varied line up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
Feast for Families Closing Party - this will be held on Sunday 28th October, from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm. It will be held at the Northcote Social Club, 301 High Street, Northcote.
This is a free event, so bring the children to this year's closing Party for some fun family times.
First, there will be a Party Animal Disco. Dress up as your favourite animal and then go wild on the dance floor! It is suitable for children aged 4 years and over.
After this, you can see award-winning, anti-glamour, cabaret anarchist, Yana Alana and her drummer, Bec Matthews. This will be on for 45 minutes of chaos. It will be a strange, fun time of song and dance for all ages.
