I was invited to a show at Ace's Cabaret - Downstairs at His Majesty's Theatre called Dao of Dylan.
I have never been inside the theatre, but I pass by it very often. Therefore, I was excited to finally discover the inside of the beautiful old-style building. We went downstairs into a dark room with plenty of round tables and a stage, where I could see a beautiful piano. The cabaret atmosphere of the place made me very excited for what was about to come.
Just before the show started, my friend and I ordered two glasses of wine and the cheese platter. This was delicious and we were ready for the show.
Two ladies in pink appeared on stage and started interacting with the public and telling us about their struggles with Perth traffic. Everybody laughed at their comments and they started introducing the song they were going to perform. I was stunned by the voice, the style and the musical skills of those two ladies. They kept going for one hour, from song to song with their own style, exchanging anecdotes and making the public laugh. This show was a great success and everyone enjoyed it. Applause, laugh and silence portrayed how well the show entertained us.
Rebecca and Monique are two professional singers and musicians who decided to get together to perform their favourite Bob Dylan songs. With their jazzy, blues and rock influences they gave a new sound to those poetic lyrics that Bob Dylan gifted the world with.
They played and sang songs such as "Don't Think Twice", "The Man in the Long Black Coat" and "Early in the Morning" to name a few. If you know Dylan's work or even if you don't, I highly recommend this cabaret musical.
