Dani Cabs is Poncho Orange is a joyful, interactive show that mixes clowning, improvisation, dance, song and poetry. The energetic one-man performance is just wrapping up a short run in the Anywhere Theatre Festival . Tonight he performed to a packed house at Ben's Burgers in West End.

Out the back of this oh so hip joint in the restauranty part of Boundary Street, a nervously giggling crowd was gently and generously guided through a series of cabaret-style skits. Some were nonsensical, others absurd, but there were plenty that touched on deeper philosophical truths. "Everything turns out alright in the end," quipped Dani in his thick Cuban accent, "So if everything is not alright, it's not the end."

There was a lot of friendly and non-threatening audience interaction. Dani had audience members joining in the fun right from the start until the very end. There was a playfulness you see among children throughout the show. We helped Dani complete poems, danced with him, called out to him and learned special yoga moves from him.

Sound and lighting queues were slick and used to great comic effect. The costuming and make-up was striking and memorable. Dani was a brave performer. He was in command of his body, knew his limits, and then danced on the edge of those limits – thrilling the audience with his riskiness.

This marked the third time I'd seen Dani in action. The first time was at Anywhere Theatre Festival during Dani's first year as a performer. His skills and the Poncho Orange character have both progressed well. Tonight we saw a performer with several years of experience controlling a crowd, who knew how to best pace and time jokes and the show as a whole.

What is the Anywhere Theatre Festival?

As the name suggests, it's a festival in which performances happen anywhere. They might be on a rooftop, in a bar, or in a car park. One year I attended a show that was on a bridge over a creek in a bit of scrubby bush. There's a variety of shows on offer for the next couple of weeks. There's dance, circus, theatre, comedy and more. You'll find them playing anywhere but a theatre.

Dani Cabs is Poncho Orange only has one night to go in the Anywhere Theatre Festival. The man behind the show Daniel Cabrera has more stage time coming up in his next Anywhere Theatre Festival offering, Weekend at Barnies which plays from the 17th until the 21st of May. It's a tribute to the film Weekend at Bernie's and if it's anywhere as good as Dani Cabs is Poncho Orange, audiences are sure to enjoy it.
