I ventured into
Gluttony at the
Adelaide Fringe and was drawn to a tent blurring out the inspirational 80's hit: "Eye of the Tiger". Suitably inspired, I sat down to find
Dane Hiser 's new show "Settle Down" about to commence.
I had previously heard good reviews from some well known comedians about Dane so was interested to see what he had to offer. Dane entered (stumbled?) onto the stage to a rousing reception of "Rocky" looking the part in his ill-fitting suit jacket, non-matching casual pants and bright red boxing gloves.
Dane launched into his new show about "awesomeness", or more specifically his "seven tips to awesomeness" (as he has mastered in his own life). A charming, thoughtful, self-deprecating comedian, Dane is the type of guy that likes "livin' on the edge" in a kind of "buying grapes at the supermarket and eating some of them before you get to the checkout" kind of way…..
Dane's hour of mirth touches on his love of sports, childhood memories (or at least the one's he hasn't blotted out), speed dating, boxercise classes and pig shooting (yes, you read that correctly). This lover of puns uses props, videos, song and dance and even his own product creation ad on this rollercoaster ride.
I left with the inspiring words of Dane ringing in my ears: "Mount that midget and go for it!"
Dane is a regular at the
Laugh Garage in Sydney and is touring around country NSW during March-culminating in an appearance at the
Sydney Comedy Festival on the 8th and 10th May. He is also on
Facebook or you can follow @DaneHiser on Twitter for gig updates.
