The Dandenong Ranges are home to over 30 picnic spots. Many have BBQs as well as tables, some require a picnic rug and others have the best of both worlds and views too.
My Top 5 Favourite spots of all are:
1. Old Olinda Golf CourseNo tables or BBQ's (though maybe one day) but the Old Golf course has views to rave about and so much space it is easy to find a glorious place to lay a picnic rug and enjoy an afternoon out. Even the family dog can go.

A picnic spot with views to rave about!
2. Sherbrooke Picnic Ground.
One of my favourite spots to take friends and international visitors. Tables, BBQ's, toilets and walks in the Sherbrooke Forest, plus a super spot to sit quietly and watch the colourful rosellas feeding.

Sherbrooke Picnic Grounds. Easy walking to Sherbrooke Falls.
3. John's HillFabulous views across to the Mornington Peninsula in one direction and to the Yarra Valley in the other. No BBQ's or toilets, but tables and open space. Great for flying kites too.
4. Hamer ArboretumA beautiful spot with views, BBQ's, tables and magical walking trails. Awesome for sunrise and full moon viewing. This is an excellent spot to enjoy a picnic
5.
Cardinia ReserveAnother favourite spot to take visitors, it has so much space, as well as bush walking tracks, playgrounds, BBQ's and toilets. The best draw-card though, is kangaroos by the hundreds, especially later in the day or early morning. The reserve is off Wellington Road.
We are truly spoilt for choice in the Dandenongs and it is hard to believe that we have so many spots to relax and enjoy a picnic.
Head to the Hills for a family day out!
