Motto: Have a plan and be prepared.

The Dandenong Market is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a massive Jubilee festival. There will be special food trucks, free performances and activities for all as well as the usual market stalls and bargains galore. Come to the party, enjoy the Dandenong market and help celebrate this momentous event.

The multicultural Dandenong Market is always rich with all the sights, flavours, sounds and smells of the many different nationalities who have made this area their home. Immerse yourself in the eclectic assemblage during the 150th Jubilee and see what makes the Dandenong Market so great.

For this very special event, Dandenong Market has teamed up with Multicultural Arts Victoria to arrange a stellar line-up of live performers. Showcasing their talents on the Emerge Stage will be Trident, performing a combination of Indian classical music with western music, Bindaas Bollywood Dance and Sol Nation, who are described as a 'melting pot of reggae, samba, funk, salsa, East Timorese folksong and African dance music.'

Flavour sensations will include fine fare inspired by the Italian, Indian and Vietnamese cuisines among plenty more, served up fresh and hot, street food style. Sweet and savoury fare galore. Something to suit every taste and why not take advantage of this opportunity to experience something new?

The family fun zone, created especially for the 150th Jubilee will include free Ta moko face painting for kids and henna body art. There will be an animal farm, representing the original livestock section of the market, along with a selection of old-fashioned games and rides. Think laughing clowns and knock over milk bottles. Other fairground rides are still to be confirmed and for more keep an eye on the Dandenong Market website.

For a visual step in time, dress up in one of the colonial-era costumes, arm yourself with some props and take a selfie in the interactive photo booth for a permanent keepsake of the day, as well as something to share on your social media for all to see.

The Dandenong Market 150th Jubilee is being held on Sunday 16th October 2016 from 10am to 4pm at the Dandenong Market. Entry to the market is free and there is both onsite and surrounding parking.

The Dandenong Market is located at the corner of Clow and Cleeland Streets, Dandenong.

150 years is an impressive record. Years ago when I worked in Dandenong I used to love popping over to the market for a bit of a wander around. There were always bargains.
