Damien Leith is coming to Adelaide with a 5 piece bands to present his interpretation of the music of a generation-Roy Orbison.
Roy Orbison, with his thick dark glasses was an unlikely icon, yet he is remembered as one of the voices of the 1950s. His songs are still used in movie soundtracks and all ages will know his classics; Pretty Woman, Crying and Only the Lonely- all of which he also wrote. And this is Leith's interest in Orbison, as a song writer.
Leith will take these great songs and adapt them to his own falsetto style. This concert is not about impersonation, but interpretation.
It's also part of Leith's promotional tour for "Roy" - an album of Roy Orbison songs to mark what would have been his idol's 75th birthday (last April 23rd). The album and tour have been endorsed by Roy's widow Barbara, and President, who was was so enthused that she even acted as executive producer to the album.
Of course, Irish born Leith is a former Australian Idol winner and known recently to audience as finalist in Dancing with the Star.
"Roy Orbison, his soulful voice and dignified artistry, has touched millions of people across all generations becoming the soul of rock n roll. Today, I am very proud to pay tribute to a man whose work has had a direct and lasting influence on both my song writing and my singing. Mercy!"
