A Convenient Oval for Dogs, Kids and Family Outings
The leafy Eastern Suburbs provides a wonderland of walking trails and parks that are great for exercise, dog walks, or strolls with the kids. I'm not much of a walker, but I must admit the beauty of the surrounding areas and views of the hills really lure me in. I now look forward to the evening walk or daily stroll around the neighbourhood.
As many women would relate, walking alone can be quite nerve-racking, particularly with the overwhelming and alarming stories you hear daily on the news and radio. Because of this, I don't really enjoy going for walks alone. However, living in Magill has helped me overcome this fear and I feel quite comfortable walking through the area. Most residents are elderly and it's comforting walking alongside fellow neighbours walking their dogs or going for a leisurely stroll. It's a very friendly neighbourhood, and a nice one at that.
Daly Oval.A Fantastic Park and Space to Take the Kids and Dogs!
I'm also fortunate enough to live a few steps away from the Daly Oval, home of the Hectorville Sporting Club or "Heccies" as some may know. It's a very large sporting field with lots of space for the pooches to run about. It also provides a BBQ area under the leafy trees, so you can relax in the shade and spend your day with the family cooking up a storm. On the opposite end of the oval is a playground for the kids, which acts as a great negotiator to distract them from the T.V or computer, and into the sunshine.
My two Chihuahuas love this oval. They're not very big in size so they tire very easily and are more inside dogs than anything. However, I still like to take them out so they can stretch their legs and get some fresh air at the same time. They enjoy walking along the trail with me and at times I let them off their leash if no other dogs are present. They can get a little nervous around others. You are also permitted to bring your pets onto the large oval space so they can run as much as they like, however be aware of your pets droppings, as it's a sporting ground.
The oval is extremely convenient, as it allows me to take the dogs out without having to walk through isolated streets alone, especially if it's getting late and I don't really have time to walk long distance. It's also handy that you can safely unleash your pets, as they play in a confined area of the oval. There are numerous seating arrangements and benches to enjoy the serenity, the breeze and sunshine, football training, and observe fellow passersby.
