Escape the hustle and bustle of the city with a trip to . This purpose-built educational facility is nestled within Daisy Hill Regional Park, a tranquil setting comprising 435 hectares of open eucalypt forest.
The centre is accessed by a boardwalk-style path leading through a large outdoor koala enclosure. These paths are sufficiently wide to accommodate prams or wheelchairs. There are currently three resident koalas, two of which can be spotted sleeping in their preferred locations. Due to their nocturnal nature, they are usually tucked up and unfazed or unaware of humans within the enclosure.
The third koala is part of an educational display inside the building. Visitors can experience a significantly closer viewing and are able to better discriminate the features of the koala.
Wildlife keepers deliver talks twice a day providing information on the resident koalas and roles of staff. Currently, these are held at 10:30am and 2:30pm daily.
The centre offers a range of informative displays and interactive activities.
a) an educational film in a private theatre
b) a stick insect display
c) native bees in a hive
d) hands-on examination of koala bones
e) posters and signage throughout
An outdoor observation tower allows visitors to experience a koala's eye view of the world. The climb consists of several flights of stairs. It is not a challenging climb, however, younger children, elderly persons or visitors with health issues may find it to be unsuitable.
Extend your visit by enjoying a picnic in the park or exploring one of the many walking trails.
