If it's great pizza you are after then Da Mario is the place for you. Newly opened in the back streets of Rosebery, David Cowdrill's unassuming rustic restaurant is hidden in a corner of The Cannery on Dunning Street; a popular spot for chic young chefs, designers and entrepreneurs to open businesses in one of Sydney's up and coming industrial suburbs.
Da Mario showcases the freshest of ingredients and an extensive range of pizzas, pastas and wines. On arrival at this stark white building you could sense a feeling of abandonment given the exterior, however looks are deceiving and the interior is a pleasant surprise. An open kitchen, a large space for many tables and lots of greenery hanging from the ceiling in baskets. The aroma of garlic and fresh tomatoes wafts through the room as the wine swirls in elegant glasses, lilies stand proud in tall vases and patrons enjoy the exquisite tastes of their pizza, pasta or wine.
The obligatory margarita pizza is superbly prepared with the softest dough, richest sauce and topped with a delicate arrangement of mozzarella cheese and a sprinkling of the greenest basil leaves. Teamed with a crisp glass of white wine and the meal is complete. Almost. Let's not forget the creamy gelato you have to end your experience with.
A perfect venue for the family with its large roadside verandah for the children to run around on or an intimate dinner for two or a large family gathering. Whatever the occasion Da Mario accommodates all tastes not only with its expertly planned menu but with its generous space and authentic ambience.
