This restaurant above Little Bourke Street on the corner of Russell Street is quite a delight.

Normally I wouldn't have ventured in as I couldn't see the diners through the window only the stairs that lead to up to the dining area on the first floor. But my friend was persistent, she assured me that I'd enjoy the experience if only I would give it a go. On her recommendation we both made out way up the stairs. We were met by a staff member and quickly ushered to a table for two. I perused the menu and wondered what to order, we were early as we were to move onto the Hamer Hall to see the MSO perform that evening so we really didn't want to linger too long.

The menu specialised in Peking Shanghai and Szechaun style cuisine, and judging from the patrons who were quickly filling the place, it obviously was well regarded in a street that has a plentiful supply of Chinese restaurants - aka China Town.

My friend was insistent we should order a whole Peking Duck as this was the restaurants specialty. I was not disappointed!
We were given prawn crackers while we waited for our dinner to arrive. And arrive in style it did. First came out the pancakes kept warm in a small bamboo basket, three small bowls one with chopped spring onions, one with chopped cucumber and the last one with a special duck sauce. Then the duck arrived accompanied by a chef and an experienced waiter. The chef began deftly carving the duck before our eyes and immediately arranging the slices on a serving platter.

Meanwhile the waiter began filling a small crepe with duck and the other ingredients on the table, we were then presented with a small filled pancake each - so now we knew how to serve ourselves. The staff then left us alone to enjoy our meals and work our way through all the duck and the side dish of Chinese Broccoli in Oyster sauce. And yes our eyes were too big for our stomachs. But the flavours and the service were fantastic.

As we were about to leave the waitress presented with a few finally sliced pieces of fruit which rounded off the meal beautifully, and something that I probably wouldn't have ordered but as a gift from the restaurant to finish off our meal it was a pleasant surprise.

Comments on the menu - The menu was as you would expect in a Chinese restaurant but it was both in Chinese and English as was the specials board.
Booking - as we were there early booking wasn't necessary however I could see as the restraunant began to fill that booking might be necessary, and according to my friend it does get very bust.
Getting there - public transport is an easy option Central station is the closest, Flinder St isn't too far away either and of course there are trams as well.
Parking - there is free parking in the streets but you have to hunt for it and then walk, there is also plenty of paid parking.
Disabled Access friendly - there is a lift but I didn't use it.
Kid friendly - yes there were quite a few primary age and older people there when we were there.
