Czech it Out
It's on again - the Czech and Slovak Film Festival 2019 ! The Czechs are great at telling stories, both in written form and on the screen, so no wonder the festival has Full of Stories as its tag line. Stories with humour, stories about political events and figures and stories of the human element will all be featured this year. The festival will take place at Luna Leederville from 21st to 24th November.
On the Roof - Czech film set in the beautiful city of Prague
The opening night film is On The Roof, a story of a young Vietnamese migrant and Mr Rypar, an older Czech living in Prague and wishing for a world as it used to be. The two characters have little in common but find ways that bring them together and result in a lovely and poignant film. Their story is very much one of our times and could occur in any city in the world where immigration takes place and where migrants face many challenges. The event begins at 6:00 pm, with the movie screening at 7 pm. A complimentary drink on arrival, Czech and Slovak finger food and music to enjoy are all part of the opening night.
The closing night screening will be the historic drama about a controversial character Zdenek Toman, known occasionally as The Czech Schindler, but who became a staunch communist in the years following WW2 and had significant influence on the politics of Czechoslovakia. The event begins at 5.45 pm, the movie at 6.20 pm. Just before the movie, audience prizes will be drawn courtesy of the festival's generous sponsors. The main prize is two nights for two in OK Divers & Spa in Bali.
