I love that my friend had a high tea event for her hens' party. I was especially happy that she chose the Customs House Champagne High Tea so I was not subject to some horrid-drunk Valley excursion involving phallic straws, hideous amounts of alcohol and regret.

Our very pretty high tea party was set up on the terrace overlooking the Story Bridge and the shaded loveliness that is the Customs House grounds. It was a great excuse to frock up like a day at the races and enjoy the company of a long table of women. I'm not sure what the collective noun is for a group of 20 women at high tea but 'gaggle' springs to mind, so let's go with that.

The gaggle quickly consumed bubbles (bit too brut for my taste) on arrival, then we were offered juice, water glasses were placed on the already full table and then tea and coffee were served. By the time I'd worked my way through the sandwiches and little savoury tartlets (nice touch Customs House, nice touch) I had had far too many drinks and felt quite full.

The benefit of going with such a big group (aka gaggle) was that we had a lot of time to relax and staff looking after us. I was able to work my way through the other two delicious layers of the tea tray over the next couple of hours.

The scones were great and the sweetie treaties petite and fresh.

We felt like we had the place to ourselves and the service was very attentive. A little pricey but considering the location (and the number of drinks), totally worth it for a special event.

Rating:
Atmosphere/location: 5
Tea: 4 (so many liquids, quite overwhelmed)
Sweetie Treaties: 4
Snackie Savoury Things: 3.5 (too much seafood for my taste)
Price/value: 3.5
OVERALL: 4
