Curry Lovers Indian Restaurant

Should you find yourself near the railway station in Epping and at a loose end, a very good use of your time would be to get yourself fed at Curry Lovers restaurant.
Considering that I pride myself on having some curry cooking skills, I am generally sceptical of Indian restaurants in Sydney.
I feel that many Indian eateries fail to achieve the beautiful balance of spices that makes Indian food so addictive.
However, after eating at Curry Lovers in Epping, I had to admit that there was still hope.
I visited the restaurant with a large group of Vegetarians and Vegans, but considering the extensive menu, this would be a wonderful place to bring a group of friends with all sorts of mixed eating preferences.
The restaurant is not particularly big, but it definitely has a spacious and bright feel to it - helped along by the fact that the walls on two sides are floor-to-ceiling glass.
The starters for our group had been pre-ordered and began with dishes of pappadum accompanied by yoghurt sauce. This was a gentle way to slowly ease into the series of dishes to come.
Among the most interesting of the starters was the complex dish shown beneath - made of fried pastry, diced Spanish onions, and drizzlings of different sauces, among other things.
I'm a big fan of the way Indian cuisine is used to transform the humble potato - and the Aloo Tikki starter was no exception. So soft within, crisp without, and bursting with savoury flavours.
Next to come out were the Onion Bhajis. These are always a favourite of mine - the onions become so sweet when fried in the spicy lentil batter. And the crunch never fails to be satisfying.
While munching down on our spicy savoury delights it was time to order some curry for the main. There were all kinds of options but for me a nice eggplant curry and a potato and pea curry were adequate.
If you like you can be daring, and like me, ask them to make it really hot. They didn't hold back on the chilis for me, and if you ask I'm sure they won't for you either.
I enjoyed all this spicy goodness with spiced basmati rice. They also serve plain nanna, garlic naan and peshwari naan as well.
While I didn't have any of the latter, the others at my table who did were 'oohing and ahhing' over it. That's always a good sign.
After all that food, I wasn't up for dessert, but should you feel differently they have mango or pistachio Kulfi - an Indian ice cream - on the menu.

Curry Lovers menu or, if you would prefer to sample the food at home, fortunately Curry Lovers also does takeaways via their own website as well as on Menulog.
For those out West, Curry Lovers has a second restaurant in Westmead.
