As the days get hotter and longer the beach beckons. What better to do after a tough morning of swimming and surfing than head to the local surf club? Everyone has their favourite and mine has to be the Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club .

Situated on Elephant Rock Headland, this club has arguably the best ocean view in the state. Sitting on the deck with an icy cold beer is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Watch the surf break on the rocks and the local surfers riding the waves. You can also admire the scene of Surfers Paradise in the distance without all the crowds.

Meals are a bit above the standard club fare and are reasonably priced. The Vikings Beef Burger will fill up the hungriest surfer or for something healthier the Smoked Salmon Carpaccio is fresh and light. If you are the bargain hunting type check out the Shop a Docket website , as there are often meal deals. The club also has specials on different nights of the week. Monday is $10.50 Schnitty and Schooner night. For more details and menus have a look at the supporters club website.

The adjacent beach is patrolled near the club and is a perfect spot for a cool off in the waves. For children or those not keen on crashing surf a 10 minute walk along the beach towards Currumbin Rocks will take you to the calm waters of Tallebudgera Estuary.

For me places like the Currumbin Surf Club are the Queensland lifestyle at its best. I know where I will be spending my Sunday afternoons this summer.
