Restaurant in McLaren Flat is one of our favorite places for a long lazy lunch in this picturesque wine region of South Australia.

Located a little outside of the famous Main Street of McLaren Vale, this old building has a long history. As the name suggests, the building was a shed to store and dry currants for consumption.

98 years later, the property has been renovated and the famous "Currant Shed Restaurant" came into existence. They still use produce from the surrounding vineyards, Tahitian lime grove, veggie garden and fruit trees. The stunning view from the sitting area over the lime trees and the vineyard is sensational and absolutely relaxing. A perfect place, not only for an extensive lunch, but also for your wedding ceremony.

But not only is the ambiance and atmosphere of this old building fantastic, is also the perfect place to enjoy fabulous food.

The innovative a la carte menu with modern cuisine changes each season. You will experience a wide range of local products, which are prepared with care and love. The Chef purchases from some of the most passionate producers of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Furthermore, the specials of the day allows him also to be more creative and create dishes, which will excite those of you who like to try different and special tastes.

The team at the Currant Shed are also focused on hosting bespoke events; currently more than 100 tailor-made events were carried out in the Currant Shed. Get in touch with Emily, the owner, and come down for a coffee to discuss your event together with her and Chef Brian. It will for sure become something truly individual and memorable.

Since we have visited this magnificent restaurant for the first time by recommendation, we come back on a regular basis. At least four times a year in order not to miss a menu of a season. The food is excellent, the hosts are very friendly and the prices are still affordable. Also our friends from here and our home country loved it.

I do not have a real favorite since there are so many delicious dishes on the menu. Mostly we order some entrees and one of the daily specials to share. Since the portions are quite large, it does not take many dishes to fill you up. Therefore we can order different dishes every time. We have just been there and enjoyed the winter warmers, which are in season now.

My ranking out of 10 (10 is the highest):
Food and Service: 10
Ambiance: 10
Price/Value: 9

If you visit the picturesque McLaren Vale next time, don't miss this marvelous place to relish a long lazy lunch! In addition, you can visit the nearby excellent cellar doors, like Shottesbrooke, Hugo Wines, Gemtree and Kangarilla Road and enjoy a wonderful day in the beautiful McLaren Vale wine region.
