The small and interesting island of Coochiemudlo Island is only a few minutes away by ferry, which departs from Victoria Point.
Details of the
ferry ride from Victoria Point. There's plenty of parking on the mainland, and it's just a short walk to the terminal. You won't have to wait long for a ferry as they set off every 30 minutes to the island and from the island.

Once on the island, you are only a short walk to the Curlew Cafe, a great venue for a snack or a meal. It is not only a cafe but it is the general store on the island too.

Curlew visiting the Cafe
The Curlew Cafe opens at 8 am seven days of the week and is open until 3 pm. The cafe food is great - and it's fun to see the curlews visit.

There are many interesting places and stories on the island, If you are lucky you may be able to get a tour of the island on the local community bus - which we did. We learned about the time Mathew Flinders was on the island, looking for a river!
If you wish to have a quiet holiday on the island there are places to stay on the island.
There is also a car ferry over to the island, so if you have passengers in your car it may be more economical to take your car onto the island, and then you have transport to explore the island at your leisure.

Island Views
The population on the island is under 1000, and many people leave the island to work on the mainland.
The beach is great, and there's a great walk around the island too. Why not take the walk to explore the island and cool off with a quick swim!
There is information on the history of the island on Wikipedia. check
here. And if you need to update information on the island, the facilities and more check with the
Redlands Information Centre.
