But why mummy ?
Our solar system
Our solar system

Have you got kids who ask the most unbelievable questions all the time, ones which you as an adult have probably never considered and which you have some difficulty answering? Here is a unique opportunity to put them in front of a panel of experts who will answer all their questions and probably make them think of some more on the way home!

The University of Southern Queensland is proud to partner with The Conversation to present 'Curious Kids Live'. Jake Clark will talk about how weird our solar system is, followed by the opportunity for children to ask four of the nation's top astronomy and planetary science experts their space questions.

"There's what on Uranus?!"

There is so much about our solar system that even grown-ups struggle with. Let's face it there is little time to address these questions of why there is acid rain on Venus, in between loading the washing machine and footie practice, but there are people out there who dedicate their lives to answering some of the strange and wonderful questions posed by our solar system.

So if your kids are the kind who might ask:

Why do stars twinkle?
Why is the sun so hot?
Is there life outside of earth?

The panel will be on hand to answer these very questions and perhaps a few more in the process. Mums and Dads might learn a little more in that time too.

The panel will be chaired by The Conversation's Molly Glassey and will feature USQ's Professor Jonti Horner, Dr Belinda Nicholson, PhD student Jake Clark, and eminent visiting scholar, Dr Katarina Miljkovic (from Curtin University).

Something else which is amazing about this session is that this panel of hugely impressive academics will be forced to speak in plain English. That is probably a challenge in itself, so no jargon or academic words- just what kids can take in and understand.

Curious Kids is a series by The Conversation, where we ask academic experts to answer real questions from real kids. Curious Kids questions can be sent to (they would love some space questions before the event).
