The Curated Space is a store with handmade, sustainable and recycled furniture, homeware and jewellery made by local artisans. The shop has many handmade items neatly allocated on shelves, furniture and hanging from the ceiling. The eclectic shop is a mine for finding gifts and presents for any occasion. There are hundreds and hundreds of beautiful and joyful decorations for the house, toys and useful items.

I am always happy to browse in a shop where everything is handmade. I can certainly feel the items are genuine and they show the creativity of the artists or craft persons who put time, skill and energy into creating something new.

When you take home something nice, you are going to keep enjoying it. Who could ever tell that a simple peg could be turned into something so cute and decorative!

What about this bunny with a red beating heart made of lovely fabric?

Surfing as a Dance is a book about how a woman found grace in and out of the water by Selly Anne Mackinnon. The story is about finding joy in life, reinvention and living one's life in full. This book nourishes the soul and it is like a good friend! The author is from the Gold Coast.

Saving Grace- A Romantic Adventure-, by Sally Machray, is a book about a young man starting afresh in Jamaica.

On the Road with Kids is a book by local Currumbin author John Ahern. The book is about a successful man with a great job, a great house and a loving family. But he is failing as a husband and as a father. What to do? John buys a campervan in order to beat the road with his family for one year. Winner of the prestigious Queensland People's Choice Book of the Year 2015 at the Queensland Literary Awards. The author has travelled to over 80 countries and has been involved in many incredible adventures.

What's Under the City, by Sandra Watkins, is an interesting book for 9-12 years old kids who would like to discover what there is under the ground in a big city like Brisbane. For example, in the early days of the colony, many tunnels were built very wide to guarantee the access of people when the tunnel needed to be inspected. The tunnels are still here today under our feet.

Beautiful handcrafted original cards.

Very special earrings created by Jo - who has over 30 years of experience creating unique pieces of jewellery from upcycled beads and findings. Her designs are inspired by nature and most pieces contain a recycled element. Jo has always been part of the Ecovillage since it was created. Today Joe and her husband live in a house that has utilised more than 90% of recycled material for the build.

Christmas decorations and graceful pottery decoration to improve your house.

If you see something you like, you will keep enjoying it at home! A vase is great on a shelf, as are near-real plants and other ornaments.

Handmade is great for the environment because is local and it doesn't have to travel the mileage to get to the customer. Handmade products are often made in a room of the house or in a shed converted to a studio.

In handmade items, there is always lots of love, care and attention to detail in order to make something unique. There is quality and originality.

When you purchase something handmade, you contribute to the local economy. The money goes directly to the artists or craft people, and that gives them the opportunity to reinvest the money into their business to keep creating beautifully crafted items.

Handmade is quirky and trendy, it allows to produce new items full of originality.

Handmaking items keep the craft skills and traditions alive. Silversmithing, clay artists, glass artists, weavers and many others - the craft people help to pass the skills to the next generation and keep the art and craft alive.
