Hidden away in a secluded corner of Melbourne Central's newly renovated Dining Hall, Cupcake Central is a little delightful shop full of cupcakes.

At first glance, you notice that they focus greatly on design and presentation. Every cupcake is immaculately adorned with an artistic display of icing and other creative decorative materials. This is served to you in an small cardboard cube in which the cupcake fits very comfortably, creating a cute little package.

I had always admired the simplistic modern architectural design of the shop front from afar, but my first time actually browsing at Cupcake Central, I was overwhelmed with choices. Did I want the Cherry Pistachio, which looked like an intoxication of nuts? Or, did I want the Cookies & Cream which had part of an Oreo on top of a light brown cream swirling cupcake? In the end, my love of marshmallows won over my love of all things chocolate (Raspberry White Chocolate, Devil's Food Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut and Chilli Chocolate as just a few examples) and I chose the S'mores Cupcake.

S'mores Cupcake

On top, there was a broken part of a butterscotch cookie and a marshmallow. These were attached to the base with light chocolate icing, which was fluffy and tasted like chocolate marshmallow. This scrumptious and sticky entrée increased my expectations of the cupcake itself greatly, sadly resulting in slight disappointment. The base looked very chocolaty, however after the sweet icing on top, you could barely taste the cacao in the body. I suppose it tasted more like the burnt smoky flavour after roasting marshmallows, which in hindsight makes sense as the cupcake was called 'S'mores'.

For $4 a cupcake or $2 a babycake with special deals for boxes of four, six and twelve, I would definitely recommend giving Cupcake Central a try. Coffee is also at a reasonable price ($3.30 and $3.80) and is made fresh with a large percolator.

Oh, wow... I only just noticed this new store in Melbourne Central last week. These cupcakes look incredibly cute and well-presented! I can feel the danger of spending many, many hours in this store on breaks from work or school. Cupcakes are an essential part of a balanced diet, right?
And mmmm. S'More cupcakes!? Sounds amazing!

I've only admired from afar so far, but from the sounds of it I'll need to get up close and maybe get a few cupcakes! Chilli Chocolate is definitely on my to-do list. The location is just close enough to my work to create a problem, will have to set a cupcake limit!

These cupcakes look absolutely adorable! They look really beautifully decorated too. I still can't get over the fact that cupcakes cost $4, I know that it isn't just at this place, thats how much they cost at most places. It is just as an avid baker of cupcakes, I think their just an tiny bit too expensive. But oh well when the look that good what can you do! :)

What a lovely treat! I haven't been to the Melbourne Central Dining Hall for a while but the idea of those cupcakes might get me back there soon. Thank you.

Love Cupcake Central. I take my kids for a ride on the train and we get off at Glenferrie Station and have a cupcake at the Glenferrie store.
