Cumulus Inc. Eating House and Bar

A fine dining venue that needs no introduction. What I loved most about Cumulus Inc. Eating House and Bar is that they were accommodating to all dietary needs, even in a group banquet celebration, without drawing attention to the fact.

The party included ten friends who for a fixed price were treated to a variety of sharing plates to sample the best of the talented chefs here, followed by a fall off the bone, melt in your mouth, whole roast lamb shoulder to share which received unanimous "oohs and ahhs" from all who devoured this main dish. Finishing with a rich salted caramel tart, prune & crème fraîche, which received the same delightfully satisfied response.

Now for me, without feeling out of place, or served the usual green salad to accommodate my gluten, dairy, fructose free pescatarian (a complicated mouthful) requirement, Cumulus Inc prepared a feast for me, bringing out my "special" meals concurrently and without fuss.

Starting with plump coffin bay oysters natural (I would have been happy with a dozen of these alone) and marinated olives around the table; then spanner crab in a baby cos lettuce cup, followed by my favourite dish of the night – tuna tartare atop smashed pea puree salad. Both dishes fresh and light with clean flavours. For mains I was served poached fish with greens, and French beans with anchovies. For dessert, fresh berries with tapioca pudding. A rare feast out, and so lovely not to have to think about what not to order!

The service was outstanding – a place where you are waited on without noticing; the space is light and classic and familiar as though dining at your friends' home but with enough noise to enjoy being out on the town; the atmosphere energetic yet private; the food, outstanding and accommodating to all dietary requirements, just let them know in advance!

Cumulus Inc. Eating House and Bar is open seven days a week for simple breakfasts, and serving dishes to share, charcuterie, oysters shucked to order, salads or the whole roast lamb shoulder for lunch and dinner. It certainly makes my short list of best places for fine dining in the CBD.
