Book your spot for this great birthday lunch
This is a tenth birthday lunch and it will be a feast celebrated on 22nd July, 2018 at 12.30 pm. It commemorates the last ten years of excellence in the dining game for the culinary team of Colin Wood and Andrew McConnell! The restaurant business is very "cut throat" which makes hitting milestones like ten years all the more significant.
More delicious food!
During this ten years, Cumulus Inc has had packed out dinners, making this all the more impressive.
There will also be wines included, so you are really getting a good deal when you buy your ticket at $120 per person. This lunch is going to sell out fast, so make sure you book your seats so you don't miss out.
Of course, if you miss out on this lunch, there's still birthday fun in the form of ten wines by the glass from the restaurant's favourite producers for $10 a glass. This is delightful when eaten with the $10 plate of ten oysters and this deal goes until 8th July from 5.00 pm.
ABOUT Andrew McConnell once did work experience in a hair salon! He prefers not to tell anyone about this but how sad it would have been if Andrew had become a hairdresser instead of cooking up a storm at Cumulus Inc., Cutler and Co, Cumulus Up and now Golden Fields. He will be releasing a Cumulus cookbook shortly.
To McConnell, Cumulus is the sort of place where he likes to hang out, serving the sort of food that he loves to make and eat. Most of these dishes are fairly simple looking, but do not let looks fool you! Cumulus has minimal decor, which allows the natural light and the food on the plate to do the work.
They also serve a "bites" menu which has things like bowls of olives and Ortez anchovies, which are recognised as the rock star of cured fish!
The staff at this restaurant are very attentive, and they are led by Jaden Ong, who always allows the diner to "dictate the pace".
Some of the food you may get at this lunch is bright florets of new season broccoli topped with a soft boiled egg complete with the obligatory oozing bright yellow yolk. This is then crisped up with bread crumbs, and sweet, salty Ortiz anchovies! The saltiness and the oozing yolk turn this rather simple vegetable dish into a main event.
If you eat yabbies here, there will be no knife and fork - it is fingers for meals like this.
Their desserts are also something to try - perhaps a malt parfait with some burnt sugar on the edges and savoury spelt crumbs. Top this with a spoon of bitter dark chocolate mousse and some passionfruit, and voila, you have a remarkable dessert. This is a classical McConnell dessert.
