A Skater Demonstrates His Skills
The Skate Park on Avenue Road at Cumberland Park is a popular one for skate enthusiasts.
Not only skateboard and longboard riders, but bike riders like to bmx in the park on the ramps too.
It's only quite a modest size compared to the
Minkarra Park in Flagstaff Hill, but it has the advantage of convenience for the locals. Most weekends and evenings see a large group of kids and teenagers happily sharing the park and trying new tricks with their skates.

The wall at one end helps to reduce noise for the neighbours, and together with overhanging trees provides some shade in summer. It also holds a colourful collection of
street art which makes the skatepark more attractive.

Park Rules Sign
It's not surprising that locals use the park as a meeting place too - they may bring their skate board but sometimes just sit and chat with their mates while others practice their stunts.

BMX In The Park
When I called in first several guys had brought a bmx bike to the park, but were just sitting around talking. But after I brought the camera out they were happy to get on their bikes and put them though their paces on the ramps.

Later in the afternoon there were more skateboarders than bmx riders, and the average age was older.

Teenagers Enjoy Hanging Around
There are also BBQ facilities and some children's play equipment in the reserve, but they are little use compared to the skate park.

BBQ and Children's Playground
The Skate Park is open 8am to 6pm from April 1 to September 30, and 8am to 9pm from October 1 to March 31.
