Over the past few months there has been and still is a lot of development happening at the Brisbane 's bayside suburb of Wynnum. Only sixteen kilometres from the centre of Brisbane with a central train line, Wynnum is fast becoming the suburb to reside. Although the shoreline is covered in mangroves and not suitable for swimming at low tide, Wynnum is well known for its wading seawater pool, adjoining playground and water-park where families flock for picnics and bar-be-ques all year round.

The railway arrived in Wynnum in the late 1880's and this saw the town grow quite rapidly. The Wynnum Shire Council was created in 1902. In 1914 Wynnum became a municipality with this own town council and the right to elect a mayor; however by 1925, the Wynnum Town Council was absorbed into the larger city of Brisbane.

Wynnum gives one a feeling of a community binding together to grow in many varied aspects of development and this is seen in the spirit of the shop owners, some of which have resided in Wynnum for most of their lives.

Two ladies who know just what Wynnum has and can offer are Holly and Melanie proprietors of " Co ". Co opened its doors in Florence Street, Wynnum approximately three months ago offering something more to customers than just your regular gift store, Holly and Melanie have a background in graphic design and art gallery/framing and hope to inspire their customers to create decorative space within the home that engages a combination of artwork, botanicals, unique furnishings, lighting and homewares. If you are not sure what to put where in your home, bring in photographs and Holly and Melanie are only too happy to work with you in designing creative yet spacious outcomes for your home.

On first walking into the shop I was impressed by the A-framed shelving, which was built by their family craftsmen using recycled timber. The use of aged tongue and groove planks as shelving demonstrated that there is a vast use for anything and everything our minds can imagine, plus also assisting the environment by the ability to recycle.

The walls are lined with artwork from local Brisbane and overseas artists and stock is changing rapidly so purchasing an item when you see it is the only true way you can guarantee your purchase without missing out. Holly and Melanie are passionate about the artists and design companies they represent and are soon to launch a number of their very own design products.

Open seven days a week, Co is located at Shop 2, 60 Florence Street. They can be followed on Facebook and Instagram where a number of their stockists are featured or pop into the store to see the numerous gift items and artwork they have in store.
