Where you can fossick for your own treasures to take home
If the thought of hunting for your own gems and treasures delights you or the kids but the idea of a complete fossicking trip is currently out of the question, you may enjoy a trip down to Cranbourne to Crystal World.
Upon arrival you may wonder if you are in the right place as it seems like a back residential street with a few farms and back fences, however a small sign will announce you have arrived.
Getting out of your car and casting your eyes around you will be amazed at the tonnes of gemstones that are laying about all over the ground. If you find something you love, you can pick it up and take it in where they will weigh it and work out a price for you.
For the dinosaur lovers amongst us, there are also dinosaur sculptures scattered around the garden and if the weather is fine you may be able to enter the gem cutting and sorting areas for a tour.
Even if the weather is poor (it was pouring when we were there) you can enter the showroom, warm up in front of the fire with their dogs and spend a good hour exploring the showroom.
There is a large fossil section with fossils bigger than me and a whole cabinet filled with pieces of Amber, the tables are heaving with tumbled gems and floors filled with salt lamps.
If you're looking for something to do with overseas guests or kids this is certainly inspiring.
Most items can be purchased and if you have a business, wholesale is also possible.
After your visit, the botanical gardens nearby are well worth the visit and they have a lovely cafe there with good views over the gardens.
