If you're looking for a market experience with a mellow, intimate yet lively grassroots feel in the heart of a friendly community, you could make a visit to the Crystal Waters Market in the Crystal Waters Eco Village.
The Eco Village is about 26kms from Maleny and was designed using permaculture principles. It is held every first Saturday of the month. You can find affordable local handmade crafts, original preloved clothing, antique treasures and paraphernalia, local organic produce, plants, coffee and wholesome eateries along the village green.
Many stallholders are directly from the heart of the village. There is Les' Bakery, a micro artisan bakery on site, which has been in business for years, selling freshly baked sourdough bread and pastries, using stone-ground organic flour from a wood fired oven. The award-winning Crystal Waters' raw honey, healthy homegrown seedlings and herbs for your veggie patch, and various food vendors. Great local music, including harpists and folk singers enliven the atmosphere performing on the large village deck.
The eco-village is classified 'land for wildlife', so there is a strict no dog and cat policy there. If you are coming from the Bruce Highway through Maleny, take the Maleny-Kenilworth road. This is a scenic route where lush vistas of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland are on display. After about 18kms, turn left onto Aherns Rd and drive until you see the blue Crystal Waters and Kilchoy lane sign on your right. From here, the Eco Village is about half a km away. Continue over the bridge into the carpark and the village green, where the market is held is on your left.
The nearest Eftpos stop is 9ks away at the Conondale Corner Store. The next market day is May 5th from 8am until 1pm.
