If you are a fan of the movie Moulin Rouge and enjoy a good French Vintage themed cabaret show then you will enjoy this night out.

Recently a friend wanted to organise something a bit different for a girls night out. We are fans of burlesque and live cabaret so it was decided that we would try out the Crystal Boudoir show which is in the basement of the GPO Building (1 Martin Place, Sydney CBD). It was easy to book online through the Crystal Boudoir Website . There are several packages that you can choose from - click here for package information.

We also didn't want to have to travel far from dinner so the complete package of dinner, cabaret show and dancing was ideal for us. Being fans of Italian food, the Intermezzo Ristorante package was an easy choice – $100.00 p/p for two courses a la carte (entrée and main) plus side dish for two people and A reserved seating at the Show.

Due to living on the northern beaches of Sydney I decided to drive in as I'm not a heavy drinker and wanted to be fresh for the next day. If we booked a package we would receive a concessional rate for secure parking up to eight hours. The parking is under the Westin Hotel (1 Martin Place, Sydney CBD). Entry to the car park is off Pitt Street. At the time I only paid $12.00 on exit (it is now $15) but make sure you remember to get your parking ticket validated at the restaurant your package is with. It was a quick 40 minute drive from the northern beaches straight into the car park and up in the lift into the stunning foyer of the Westin Hotel. We already felt it was a special night out surrounded by the grandeur of this five star Hotel.

From the foyer we went to Intermezzo, which is located inside the Westin just above the Crystal Boudoir Nightclub. We were greeted warmly by traditionally dressed Italian staff. After having our 7pm booking confirmed and the parking ticket validated were shown to a lovely table. The decor is modern and stylish with an impressive Wine tower. The cuisine was beautifully presented and every bite mouthwatering.

We all enjoy a good red wine so we asked our waiter to suggest something in a reasonable price range that would still be delicious. He offered us to taste Il Passo Nerello Mascalese, a traditional Italian wine from Sicily. Oh my, it was so delizioso, a gutsy red wine generous in high grade oak with blueberry and cherry fruits. It was a perfect pairing for our meal. Of course we had two bottles!

Feeling quite jolly after such a delicious dinner and wine, we took off downstairs to the cabaret show. Doors opened at 9pm with a DJ playing sexy French groove music. The French vintage themed decor of gilded mirrors, heavy velvet drapes, lit with spotlights and crystal chandeliers, created soft sensuous tones. The back wall of the bar behind the stage was a real feature with sparkling crystal effect glass. I almost felt I was at a Parisian underground nightclub. Our table was right at the front which allowed for perfect viewing. I am a photo obsessed person so yes a perfect spot for me. At 9.15pm a saxophonist commenced, which was a perfect introduction to the show.

At 9.30pm the show began, which consisted of several short performances until 11pm.

Very energetic, sensual but tastefully done.

I have to say it was exciting, colourful and very talented dancing. The cast of dancers and singers kept the performance edgy and in no way vulgar. There was, of course, rather sexy revealing outfits but no nudity. After 11pm the club is open to dancing until 2am.

As you can see I had quite a fun night. I highly recommend it, especially the complete dinner and show package.
