Crunchbox is a fabulous concept - they are manufacturers of raw cakes and slices.

With no added refined sugar, this is a healthier option than cakes and biscuits that have heaps of processed sugar in them. The owner is Michael Winter and it has been operating for about 3 years now.

They have recently moved from Osborne Park, and are now at Unit 1,4/5 Mulgul Road, Malaga. There is plenty of parking outside, and it is an easy place to find. The place itself is very unassuming and staff were friendly. Michael brought out a few serving ideas and these looked stunning on wooden breadboards!

At Crunchbox, they have the following guilt-free treats which are:

  • Plant-based
  • Vegan
  • Gluten free
  • No refined sugars
  • Raw
  • Soy-free
  • Dairy free

  • They make a variety of large cakes and some of these flavours include:

  • Strawberry and Cream
  • Choc Peanut Butter
  • Pistachio and Rose
  • Salted Caramel
  • Black Forrest
  • Choc Spearmint
  • Matcha Lime
  • Hazelnut Nutella
  • White Choc Macadamia
  • Salted Tahini
  • Lemon Berry

  • You can see more of their large cakes and find out more at their website.

Instead of sugar, they use such things as rice malt syrup, maple syrup and other similar natural products.

Their aim is to create healthy treats so you do not have to miss out on anything, or compromise taste for nutrition. Michael loves to create and experiment with new flavours. To this end, you can have slices such as:

  • Peanut bar
  • Hazelnut bar
  • Chocolate mint
  • Blue vanilla
  • Tiramisu
  • Nut-free caramel

  • This is the choice we picked when we bought the 6 pack of assorted slices. They come in an attractive brown box with a see-through lid.

These cost $30 which is very reasonable making them $5 each. Many raw desserts which are smaller are around $6.50 in shops, and sometimes even more. The slices also come in an assortment of sizes and this one would be fantastic for a crowd!

The day we picked up ours, Michael was busy making double chocolate slices. We watched as staff worked and noted that the areas were spotless.

We were served by Arianna, who explained various aspects of their desserts to us. Arianna also brought out a plate of small slices for the customers to try.

We actually bought these to try for lunch! However, two of us just could not get through the whole box of six as they are quite rich and very filling. However, they were absolutely delicious and a wonderful alternative to either baking yourself or buying sugar-laden desserts.

They also supply commercial catering options for cafes, studios and small businesses, as well as catering for private events and all other functions.

Currently, they do not serve coffee at the shop, however, I believe Michael is thinking about turning this shop and factory into a small coffee lounge. They certainly have the room for this.

If you do not live near Malaga, you can check out the above website for a list of about 70 stockists around Perth.

All in all, we were very happy both with the price as well as the quality and taste of our lunchtime desserts - a little goes a long way!
