Be Your Own Tour Guide in a Cruisin Motorhome
Hobart, originally known as Hobarton, is Australia's second oldest capital city after Sydney. Although Hobart's history dates back to a British Colony in 1804, the area was occupied by indigenous tribes for what is thought to be as far back as 35,000 years. Originally the city was situated on the eastern side of the Derwent River; however due to a more plentiful water supply, the city was moved to the western side of the river. Named after Lord Hobart, who was the British Colonial Secretary, the town was known as Hobart Town and later shortened to Hobart.

The banks of the Derwent River were once covered by forests and home to the Tasmanian Aborigines. When European settlers arrived, they saw the benefit of the fertile soil and farmed the area. Most of Hobart's water supply is taken from the lower part of the river and nearly forty percent of Hobart's population live around the estuary's boundaries.

The Derwent River is also home to Cruisin Motorhomes Hobart, where homeland visitors and international tourists can hire a campervan to self-drive around the Apple Isle and explore the beautiful country-side and vast mountainous areas. Mount Wellington in Hobart stands at a height of 1,271 metres and when at the summit, panoramic views of the city and surrounds can be seen for miles.
