Cruise Ship Spotting, Free Family Entertainment
Cruise ship spotting has become an entertainment and one that is far more accessible than you might think. In the months of February and March, continuing the cruising season, there are no less than five visits to Phillip Island from these floating resorts. Forget the traffic hazards and congestion of the Melbourne ports area and take a pleasant day trip to Phillip Island, where there will be no shortage of great vantage points. The ships are at anchor all day and Phillip Island is an easy day trip from Melbourne.

Arrive early enough and you will be able to witness the passengers being ferried to the Rhyll jetty on the ship's tenders. For those who like to capture a photo or two, this is a great opportunity.

At around one and three-quarter hours from the Melbourne CBD and around an hour from Cranbourne along the South Gippsland and Bass Coast Highways this holiday paradise and tourist mecca is close enough for a day trip and tempting enough for a long stay. Often called Melbourne's playground, this area has something for everyone. With coastline on Westernport Bay and the Bass Strait, it is a beach lover's delight. Inland the landscape is one of beautiful rolling hills, farmland and bushland. To help you plan your stay, check out the article 27 Things to do on a Bass Coast and Phillip Island Holiday.
