Whether you're visiting Canberra from out of town or just having a staycation, a cruise around Lake Burley Griffin is a great way to see Canberra from a whole new perspective. The MV Southern Cross offers sightseeing cruises which show off some of Canberra's most iconic architecture framed beautifully by trees, water and the big Canberra sky.

There is something about sitting on a boat that allows you to zone out from the stresses of everyday life. The fresh breeze, the sound of the water and the distance from crowds and traffic on board are the perfect excuse to sit back and relax. For 90 minutes, you can give yourself permission to just be: to watch the view, listen to the water and feel the sun and breeze wipe away your worries.

The MV Southern Cross has both indoor and outdoor seating across two decks making it comfortable no matter the season although the skipper mentioned autumn is an ideal time to cruise because of the milder weather and the trees which provide a postcard-perfect view. The onboard bar offers a snack (chips, muffins and chocolates), tea, coffee and even a cheeky glass of wine.

If you want to set sail, there are three boarding locations and the option to add lunch at the Yarralumla Yacht Club following the sightseeing cruise. There is also a lunch cruise and a sunset cruise if you want to level up the experience (although apparently it can get chilly at night so remember a coat!).

This cruise is ideal to get your bearings as a visitor or to let you see your city in a new light If you are a local. It also got the toddler stamp of approval with both the novelty of the experience proving a real hit. So set sail, cruise the capital and enjoy!
