This is one of those places that from the moment you arrive you know you are definitely coming back. Of course, being a golf course you expect the gardens to be stunning, but the view is also magnificent.

This is after all the most beautiful part of the Yarra Valley where in the early mornings you can see hot air balloons floating above.

The long winding driveway gives you enough time to appreciate the perfectly manicured lawns of the golf course. It looks like they have spent a fortune on old stonework. I didn't go for the golf facilities but I can see that there is a place to practice your swing.

The Croydon golf club at Yering Meadows (near Yarra Glen) offers a 27 hole championship layout with three composite courses. Competition golf operates six days a week.

The golf shop is staffed by three qualified PGA members and professionals delivering tuition. The latest golfing equipment and apparel are available.

Membership options are available including social membership seven days a week and includes discounts of food and beverages.

We went for an anniversary lunch. The price of the food was very reasonable and the size of the meals generous. A senior's meal was only $16 today.

There wasn't a huge range of menu possibilities but most of us had fish and chips and chicken schnitzel anyway. I chose the aranchini which I love. This was a really delicious variation with pumpkin cooked with the rice. It was on small appetite list but nevertheless came with four aranchinis that was very filling. This only set me back $12.

I was hanging out to try the dessert. The trouble was choosing between the orange flowerless cake, the citrus tart and the mango and macadamia and cheesecake. The cheesecake had three ingredients, which are my most loved in the world, so that was my choice. I thoroughly enjoyed it and also got to sample the tart, which was also fabulous.

I notice they have very inexpensive sweet and savoury high teas ($24 per head) and cook your own steak the way you like it (from $16).

I highly recommend the services. George greeted me with a smile and the other waiters were also very friendly. I think this would make a perfect venue for a lazy Sunday afternoon or special event in the summer or winter. They had a lovely open fire and I can imagine sitting on those comfy couches appreciating the view with hot chocolate or two.
