Fun rides, workshops, cool sounds, food & live entertainment

Crown Street Public School's biennial fundraising fete returns on Sunday 3rd November 2019, 10.00am 3.00pm. Entry is FREE and all are welcome to the family-friendly festivities!

This year, Crown Street Public School is celebrating 170 years of awesome learning, teaching and community. Established in 1849, the school is one of the oldest continuous public schools in Australia. The landmark heritage-listed building is considered a prominent site in Surry Hills.

The Crown Street Public School Fete will be jam-packed with rides, cool summer sounds, child-friendly workshops, great coffee, food and entertainment!!

Here's what event-goers can look forward to:

  • Amusement Rides & Attractions - Enjoy spinning cups and saucers, a haunted house, a pirate ship, turbo flyers and bouncy castles.

  • Live music, dance performances and family entertainment - The fete will have a range of amazing performances, opening with a Smoke Ceremony from Uncle Max. Throughout the day there will be Chinese Lion Dancing, Kung Fu Pandas, student performances and jugglers, stilt walkers and acrobats from 'Sydney Trapeze School'.

Local singer Jo Cooper will be performing and debuting some new songs and the remarkable magician David Lowe will be on main stage; just after Midday, looking for 'innocent' volunteers for the 'guillotine!'. As the fete nears the end of the day students will gaffer tape their principal to the wall, as part of the 'Principals Gaffer Tape Challenge'. Let's hope the Principal 'sticks' to his word!

  • 'Crown Street Celebrates' Cook Book Launch - This beautifully photographed, 200-page cookbook includes 100 recipes by talented home cooks and big-name chefs from Surry Hills.

  • Child-friendly workshops - A series of fun, interactive and inspiring workshops for the little ones!

  • Bustling artisan market - Peruse a wide range of lovingly handmade wares by local artisans, artists and crafters! Highlights include ceramics, beading, soy candles, jewellery, vinyl, high-end jewellery, crochet, stationery, greeting cards, bespoke fashion, organic produce and lots more!

  • Fantastic food - The fete food stalls will be serving up an array of mouth-watering fare; an Aussie BBQ served by 'Grll'd', pizza from 'Pizza Birra', paella, burritos, dumplings, hummus from 'Simply Hummus Bar' and heaps of other tasty cuisines. In addition, there will be Messina ice-cream, slushies and homemade lemonade to cool down in the summer sun. For the sweet tooth - freshly made classic fairy floss, churros, cupcakes and slices will be available.

  • Great coffee - Two Skinny Pickles will be supporting the fete and serving their excellent coffee in the 'Instagrammable' area called 'The Crowns'. Purchase pastries, croissants, muffins, gluten-free options, handmade gifts, potted plants and much more in 'The Crowns'. Take some time to appreciate the awesome art installations and enjoy long relaxed conversations with family and friends.

  • Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic - Cuddle some pets, let Dr Sam look after your teddy bear and have your photo taken to remember the great day out!

  • Face Painting - Head Fairy 'Adelaide' from 'Periwinkle Parties' will be entertaining the children with some awesome face painting.

Crown Street Public School neighbours Bourke Street Public School will also be at the fete, so you can purchase '50 Secrets of Surry Hills' and the Principal and staff from the new Inner City High School will be showcasing the new school uniform and branding.

MC for the day will be Mike Galvin, founder of the Darlo Darlings Facebook Group, food blogger and all-round 'good guy' and a huge Surry Hills supporter!

Crown Street Public School Fete is an opportunity for the students, teachers and parents to showcase the wonderful school and the vibrant community in which we all live in!
