Conveniently located near the Ipswich train station and several bus stops, Crossroads Books sell both used books and new books by independent authors. They also hold seminars for upcoming authors, the proceeds of which are donated to local charities, and have in store Tarot readings.
The lovely, historic building is well lit and the shelves are a good distance apart so it doesn't feel too cramped, creating a pleasant atmosphere for leisurely browsing. The air-conditioned reading area upstairs can be hired for meetings and there is a kitchen area and photocopier available at affordable prices.
There is a great selection of books, including horror, crime, classics, science fiction and fantasy, romance and general fiction, and the children's section stocked with vintage Choose Your Own Adventure, Goosebumps books and Nancy Drew, among other things. Crossroads offers an exchange program, so you can bring in books you are finished with for store credit to choose something new.
The owners, Karen Masterman and Tony Dallow, are friendly and knowledgeable and are happy to action requests over the phone or posts books out to customers.
