I am always on the lookout for fun outing ideas for myself and my 3 year old adventurer. Ideally, I'd like them to include: a playground, a restful natural environment and lots of opportunities to walk around and discover new places.
The charming suburb Cronulla has it all. Our adventure starts on our arrival at the car park that adjoins Dunningham Park, opposite to North Cronulla Beach (during the week there are usually plenty of parking spaces available there). As we get out of the car we notice the fresh smell of the salty sea air and the serene ocean views.
My son loves to splash in the surf, walk along the waves and play in the sand. As for me, I am happy to set aside my everyday worries and enjoy the holiday-like atmosphere of this beach-side suburb.
Right beside the beach is the Dunningham Park. There we find plenty of swings, slides and climbing opportunities, as well as an adjoining café and toilets!
After we finish climbing, sliding and swinging, we usually go for a relaxing walk along the nearby Cronulla street. For parents with small children, having a street with no access to cars can greatly reduce their levels of stress around having to be on guard around traffic and their littlies, making it easier to simply enjoy their stroll.
Cronulla street offers plenty to explore: cafes, boutiques, retailers, there is even a nearby Cinema. We usually grab a cheese and bacon roll at one of the many bakeries before we head home.
Although we are a little sad to leave, we know that we will be back soon, whenever we are in need of a little half-day holiday escape.
