A retired business owner, my passions are cooking, photography and eating. I use all three of these when I write for recipeyum.com.au which is on HubGarden
Event:
If you ever wanted to learn to crochet, now is your chance
Crochet is described by dictionary.com "as needlework done with a needle and having a small hook at one end for drawing the thread or yarn through intertwined loops."

When I was a child, my mum taught me how to knit. Being left-handed, people actually look at me strangely when I knit as I do not do it how I was shown! I just could not knit like my mum and that is probably because I was left-handed and had to hold the needles very differently to how she did.

My mum was always knitting something and I really regret that she did not crochet - at the time, crocheting was really only one style and I had always thought of it as making things for old ladies.

Now that I myself am an old lady, my views have changed but so has the art of crocheting. Nowadays, it is fashionable and there are all sorts of items you can make that look fabulous when crocheted. And you do not just have to do squares and sew a blanket together!

On saying all this, I have attempted to learn to crochet once but once again, found it difficult which I assume is because I am left-handed; yes, I know there are plenty of left-handed people who crochet but I am not one of them as yet.

Now there are classes where you can learn from scratch. These classes are held on the third Saturday of each month at Leapfrogs, 25 Drovers Place, Wanneroo. The next few classes will be held on 16th February and 16th March. The cost is just $22 per lesson if you bring your own materials or $33 if yarn and hook need to be supplied.

You will be able to book for the February class on 1st February 2019 and classes are from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm.

The classes are suitable for beginners as well as those who have already mastered the art of crochet. In the class, you will make a small project that gives you the skills to take on a similar larger project. Coffee, tea and water plus a light snack will be provided from the menu on the day.

Included in the ticket price is the following:

Tuition from Seona
A digital and hard copy of the coaster pattern and the associated cushion patterns
If you choose to do the full workshop as well as the patterns you will also get:
- 1 x Knit Picks Dishie cotton balls
5mm hook

As part of the being able to use this particular venue, you are asked to purchase something from the menu. There is no split billing but you can pay Seona cash, card or PayPal for your share of the bill if you order more than what is included.

Seats are limited and classes are small, so be sure to purchase your place now!

About the Teacher Seona
Seona wants to bring "a unique and modern vibe to the world of crochet." She wants to teach other people to learn the craft and to encourage them to have their own style. In order to do this, Seona will give you versatile patterns that are both elegant and timeless.

Seona has a passion for designing and making all things crochet. The patterns available are all written from items that she has created herself.

Seona is also passionate about creating new things and adapting patterns to make them different and unique. She will encourage you to do the same with all the patterns that you receive from her in the classes.

Each pattern has instructions on how to make these changes to make it into your very own design. This means that you will get more than one pattern when you buy anything from her store.

You can read more about Seona and these classes at this site or on her Facebook page.
