Have you ever wondered where the wool in your cosy winter scarf came from? And, just how did it get from the being a mound of fleece, to a fine yarn that could be knitted, or crocheted into many garments?
To celebrate the introduction of 'A Very Fine Yarn' a new interactive exhibit,
Creswick Woollen Mills will be conducting interactive yarn demonstrations during the last weekend in September.
Visitors to the Creswick Woollen Mills will be given the chance to immerse themselves in all things woolly during the Tourism Open House Weekend, and discover the answers to their questions.
Follow the journey of yarn from animal and manufacturing, right through to the finished product. Learn about the Mill's resident alpacas as you enjoy a tour of Australia's last working coloured-wool mill and discover the whole process of wool production.
This tactile tour will have you saying words like: blending, carding, spinning and weaving, and actually knowing what they mean.
What is carding?
Carding: To comb and clean with a sharp-toothed instrument in order to disentangle wool fibres before spinning.
Free entry at 11am & 2pm over the Tourism Open House Weekend.
Creswick Woollen Mills Shopping Hours: 9am - 5pm; 7 days a week. From 30th September 2013: Entry $15 (redeemable on $50 spend)
