It is well-known that children are great story makers, with an imagination over-fuelled by inspiration, especially when it is time to cover up deeds that mummy should not know. Well, here is a great opportunity to let their imagination run wild, improve their literacy and develop their creativity as well.

The Writing Workshop is holding its 5th year at the Sydney Olympic Park as part of the famous 'kids in the park' program. The workshop will be hosted at the Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush Bay, from the 9th to 16th of April 2011.

According to the website, the Writing Workshop has planned numerous activities of different levels for children aged between 6 and 15 years old, during this April Holidays. These courses will help them build up their confidence, develop their creativity and improve literacy in an engaging environment.

Among the courses offered is 'Write Your Own Book Workshop', which is designed for kids aged 8-13 years old. It will be held on Saturday 9th of April from 10 am- 3.30 pm and if the children have not been lucky enough to get enrolled on this date, they can book the same course for Friday 15th of April at same time. This course will be hosted at the Education Centre Tower, Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush Bay. The course comprises one full day of intensive creative writing workshop with fun and appealing writing exercises and discussion about writing techniques, for example, setting up of a particular atmosphere, planning gripping plots, building up and finishing incredible stories.

On Sunday the 10th, the 'Fabulous Beasts' creative writing workshop has been planned for the 8 – 13 years old as well. Goblins, witches and dragons will be on the front line this day. The children will have to plot and create unimaginable stories around their favourite beasts at the Education Centre Tower of the Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush Bay.

Monday the 11th of April will reveal the talents of our inspiring writers for the 'Kids in the Park' program. With activities like engaging individual and group creative writing exercises on new settings of devastating events and remarkably funny stories and poems, this will surely stimulate your 6-9 years old kids' intellect. The designed course is scheduled from 10am-12pm. And, for the 8-12 years old, the 'Kids in the Park' program is aimed at providing your children with the opportunity to create their own future land, travel in time, and invents wild new technologies and using them in a world of changing events. It will be hosted in the Field Studies Tower, Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush Bay, from 12.30 pm– 2.30pm.

Another brain-stimulating course, the 'Skilled Young Writers' is programmed on Thursday 14th of April from 10 am to 3.30 pm and is intended for 10-15 years old school children. This course comprises one full day of intensive creative writing at a high level with discussions on writing techniques, setting imaginary characters and plotting fascinating stories.
For this year, two new courses will be offered. 'Story Making Fun' is scheduled for Saturday 16th of April from 10am – 1p.m for kids aged between 5 and 8. Author Bernard Cohen will animate this oral and written story making and illustrating workshop at the Education Centre Tower of Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush Bay.

And on Saturday 16th of April, an 'Advanced Poetry Workshop' has been planned for the 10-15 years old. This poetry writing workshop will be held at the Field Studies Tower, Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush Bay from 2-5 pm. All materials will be provided.

Also, it must be noted that all children must bring along their own picnic style lunch, drinks and snacks. A certificate of completion will be awarded to the children at the end of the course. For more information and bookings, please check this website.
