World Environment Day Festival has a diverse selection of awesome activities happening throughout the month of June on the Sunshine Coast, activities aimed at connecting communities to their environment. There are unique guided walks; wetland events, coastal events plus a heap load of other events for nature lovers to get involved in.
When you're out and about at the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens, you may have spotted the fabulous birdbaths in the gardens and thought to yourself 'gosh, I wish I had one of those in my backyard'. Well, now is your opportunity to learn to actually make one!
Visitors will be taken through the process of birdbath making, using a combination of demonstration as well as audience participation. Guests attending the birdbath making workshop will also receive a list of instructions to take home, to use as guidance when creating your very own birdbath for the backyard.
If you have ever sat and delighted in the local birds in your garden flitting in and out of the water sprinklers or skimming through the swimming pool water in summer to cool off, a birdbath adds that little extra touch, to welcome the neighbourhood birds to pop in for a cool, clean drink whilst enjoying the backyard. During the workshop, participants will learn interesting tidbits about some of the most common birds we have in backyards on the Sunshine Coast, as well as a few great ideas on the basics of positioning and maintaining the birdbath, to ensure that our feathered friends stay safe and healthy.
Each person who attends the birdbath making workshop, will have their name go into a raffle draw and one lucky winner will get to take home the actual birdbath, created during the workshop. It might even be you!
For the keen creative who loves to be 'hands on', please bring your own pair of gloves. Comfy shoes and a hat are also recommended as the participants will be going on a short walk in search of birds, giving the concrete mix time to firm up.
Morning tea will be provided - please 'bring your own' cup.

The best news of all? No experience is needed! All materials will be supplied; workshop-ees may bring their own pair of scissors and secateurs.
Please 'bring your own' morning tea or visit the onsite Cafe, which will also be open.
