The first session on the 20 April is a FREE introduction session to help parents, health care professionals and teachers decide if this course is appropriate for them. The remaining evenings are priced at $50 per session. However, with a valid group therapy referral from your GP you will be eligible for a $31.65 Medicare rebate per session. Full cost for the 8-week course is $350 but with the first session FREE and the Medicare rebate the total cost of the eight-week course for you will be $128.45 – very good value for the peace of mind it will provide.
As a parent, one of the biggest challenges you can often face is managing your children's difficult or defiant behaviour. Be it their refusal to get ready for school on time, ignoring your instructions to put down a game and re-direct their attention to another task, throwing a full-blown tantrum or not showing you the respect and love you deserve as their parent, you can find yourself overwhelmed and at a loss for an effective way to respond. This course can change all that and provide you with the strategies to implement the changes required for your child's behaviour.
The full course has been developed especially for parents of children and teens who are exhibiting disruptive behaviours and Clinical Psychologist, Dr Arna Witkwoski, will be sharing the most effective evidence-based behaviour management strategies to empower parents dealing with disruptive children and teens.
Dr Witkowski has extensive experience in tailoring strategies to children with a range of developmental delays and diagnoses, including but not limited to ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Anxiety and Oppositional Defiance Disorder.
The strategies to be discussed are also appropriate for teachers and other health care professionals who would like to increase their skills in building self-esteem, increasing independence and/or helping behaviours in children and teens under their care. Attendance by teachers and health professionals will attract 8 Professional Development points.
Come along and you will find that learning behaviour management strategies in a group context can be very beneficial. It provides you with the opportunity to learn from each other and gain an understanding that you are not alone in managing children with difficulties.
This is a terrific opportunity for all parents who need some help in dealing with their kids' behaviour through positive and creative parenting solutions. Remember, as Garrison Keillor the noted American author, columnist, humourist and radio personality is quoted as saying, "Nothing you do for children is ever wasted."
