Creation to Collection 2016 is a FREE original handwoven textiles exhibition which will be held at Steps Gallery for a strictly limited season this May.

This unique joint exhibition, which occurs once every three years, is a collaboration between two talented textile designers, Christina Turner and Virginia Harrison, and experienced garment designer Pat Jones.

The displayed collection reflects a creative partnership of shared ideals and design aspirations and each handwoven, handmade piece is an individual never to be repeated design.

Textile designers Christina Turner and Virginia Harrison have been designing and weaving fabric for more than 25 years, and in 1996 decided to launch of PLUSH! Luxury Fabrics & Design. Over two decades Christina and Virginia have been designing and producing original fabric and art to wear under the PLUSH! banner and this exhibition coincides with the 20 year anniversary of their design partnership.

Christina is a member of the Design Institute of Australia and Virginia is a recipient of an International specialised skills association award, having won a grant to attend a jacquard weaving and CAD course in Florence, Italy. Prior to studying textile design and handweaving they both worked in IT. Christina graduated from RMIT in 1994, and Virginia studied at RMIT from 1986 to 1988. Their combined experience spans computer aided design and the ancient art of handweaving.

Complementing the PLUSH! display is a selection of intricate textiles handcrafted by Pat Jones. Pat studied fashion design and production at RMIT and then went on to study textile design. She has always loved textiles and has a great collection of old and new fabrics. Her studies and experience make her the ideal third person in the partnership.

All are welcome to come along to this exhibition with will open to the public on Wednesday 11th May at 6pm.

Marg Naylor Art Collection Project Officer at James Cook University will open the exhibition.

Following the Opening Night, the exhibition will be open until Sunday 22nd May. Trading times are as follows: Weekdays 11am to 4pm and Weekends 12pm to 4pm.
