Kids toys don't have to be expensive and you can have great fun making some of them yourself. This funky straw mobile was not only easy to make, it cost just $2.50 in materials.

Just a quick example we created today

Here is what you will need to create your mobile.

1-2 packets of colorful straws - about 50 will do the trick, but use as many as you like.
A piece of ribbon or string 2m in length.
A wooden skewer

Step 1. Tie a knot in one end of your string.

Step 2. Using your skewer, pierce a small hole in the centre of your first straw. If you find the centre on one straw by folding it in half, you can use this as a guide for your other straws.

Step 3. Thread your string through the hole in the straw and pull it all the way to the knot.

Step 4. In a sequence of your choosing, or you may want to randomly select different colours, repeat steps 2 and 3 with the remaining straws.

Step 5. If you have bendable straws, you may want to bend some of the ends for added effect.

Step 6. Attach your new mobile to a place above your baby's change table or in your child's room. It's really that simple.
