Boulangerie. Patisserie. Two delicious sounding words to describe delicious tasting breads and pastries. Cream on Cavendish Road in Coorparoo is a boulangerie and patisserie containing the most delicious of these treats, along with many, many others.

The place takes its name from the topping to one of its signature pieces - iced coffee (or chocolate or mocha) topped with their distinctive sweetened cream. It makes the perfect finish to one of their all-day breakfasts, which can be selected from an extensive menu. My favourite is the eggs benedict - but in typical Cream style - the poached eggs, ham and creamy
hollandaise sauce are served on a fresh croissant. The ham and mushroom omelette is also a favourite.

The lunch menu is also good, although less extensive than breakfast, with options from the bruschetta (one of the best I've had - I have to figure out what they add to their vinegar glaze to make it so tasty) to homemade pizzas. And everything goes well with the iced coffee.

If you feel the need for a little more decadence, High Tea is served daily. For $35pp you can indulge in 'Three Tiers of Decadence', including sandwiches, quiches, scones, tartlets and petit fours, all accompanied by juice, tea and coffee.

As well as in-house food, you can also order cakes, tortes, pastries, tarts or flans with a next day delivery service offered if an order is placed before 3pm. You can choose from an Opera Gateaux (layers of japonais, coffee butter-cream, chocolate ganache and liqueurs layer, masked in dark chocolate ganache - according to Lisa) or a Chocolate Baileys Soft Cheesecake or a Fresh Fruit Flan, to name but a few. Plaque and cake writing are also available.

Husband and wife team, Michael and Lisa Wood run Cream, with Michael baking and Lisa running front of house. Started 11 years ago, Cream has gone from strength to strength with their European style pastries. Although the notion of 'European style pastries', tortes and other delectables sounds quite high and mighty, Cream is anything but that.

Lisa is always ready to greet you with her down to earth smile and the menu is accessible and lacks any hint of pretention you might expect. The tasty food, coffees and other treats are left to speak for themselves.

So if the words 'Boulangerie' and 'Patisserie' aren't enough to tempt you along to Cream, then the promise of passionfruit cheesecake, choc velvet tart or a chocolate lavender tart surely will.
