In Australian cinemas from 24 June 2021 Cranston Academy: Monster Zone is an 80 minute long horror comedy animation feature from Mexico's Anima studios. Rated PG due to animated violence, bullying, gross subjects and some rudeness. It is suitable for children from about eight years of age, younger children may have some trouble understanding the humour but would enjoy the action and bright colours.

The main protagonist Danny (voiced by Jamie Bell ) receives a scholarship to the prestigious Cranston Academy for geniuses. He travels from America to the London school where he meets up with the daughter of his hero (Professor Fizzerton). Liz ( Ruby Rose ) is unimpressed with his gauche ways but ends up helping him when he inadvertently opens a portal to a fifth dimension putting the school in danger.

The film has plenty of likable characters such as Mothman, Principal Evans and a crazy hamster and the colourful monsters are not particularly scary. The academy and students have a very "Hogwarts" feel to them but they are dealing in science rather than magic.

Cranston Academy: Monster Zone is a fast-paced fun film to take older children to during the school holidays.
